Alternate care sites: The new normal

Planning for fully operational temporary treatment centers

An alternate care site set up for treatment

Nontraditional medical treatment areas—or alternate care facilities—are opening up in hotels, schools, warehouses, and, like McCormick Place in Chicago, convention centers. Envisioning an alternate care site, thoughts of Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) units, with makeshift tents, beds, and mobile medical stations, often come to mind. This is now a reality throughout the country, as hospitals and medical facilities are bursting to over-capacity. These new sites are not only necessary, but indispensable in managing and treating an influx of new COVID-19 cases.

We quickly realized, as customers were calling for extra beds and other supplies, that they also needed exam room lighting, advanced vital signs monitors, durable scales, IV poles and more. To help our customers with the variety of options available and required when setting up additional treatment spaces, Medline has launched a new online Alternate Care Site page to help provide customers with clear guidelines and recommendations, fast quotes, and quick and easy set up so they can start treating patients quickly.

The types of products available for the Alternate Care Sites (ACS) include:

Medical Beds

Emergency cots and exam tables are strong enough to accommodate a wide range of patients and can be folded down for easy storage.

Treatment Areas

Accurate diagnoses and effective patient care require a variety of items, from bright exam room lighting and advanced vital signs monitors to durable scales and IV poles.

Medical carts are ready to hold all your needed supplies. Space-saving shelving units provide a place to store larger items, while handy bins keep smaller supplies within reach.

Patient Mobility

Lifts and transfer sheets help caregivers avoid back injuries. Patients can move with ease, by themselves or with assistance, in sturdy wheelchairs.

Effective, concise messages help keep your staff focused on infection prevention.

Our aim is to make it as simple as possible for our customers to plan your expansion site based on these considered recommendations. Once the quote is accepted and the items are approved and ordered, our dedicated capital products support team handles everything from ordering through delivery and installation.
