Company, fleet continuing Texas deliveries of vital healthcare supplies 24/7

Northfield, Ill., Aug. 30, 2017 – With Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts underway, Medline has been actively coordinating and delivering back-up resources and medical supplies for hospitals and other healthcare facilities despite the continued flooding associated with the storm. Last Tuesday, Medline initiated its Emergency Action Plan to manage the safety and integrity of its southern Texas customers and nearly 400 employees in the state.

The company’s emergency response has helped minimize disruptions to a number of healthcare providers in affected areas. Medline’s network of distribution centers across the country, including Texas, have back-up generators and back-up satellite communications, as well as mobile generators and mobile satellite communication trailers that can be immediately set up in affected areas.  The company has been coordinating with customers and local officials to ensure medical supplies can be delivered to customers in flooded areas, and its Katy, Texas distribution center has maintained power and remained dry.

The company’s 650,000-square-foot distribution center in Katy is one of two that Medline owns in Texas. Having an infrastructure of more than 40 distribution centers strategically located across the country provides the flexibility to redirect resources if needed from neighboring facilities like Dallas, through the Medline inventory management system. As part of the emergency preparedness plan, Medline has engaged three of its other large distribution centers in close proximity to continue shipments to Texas customers.

Emergency Response and Recovery Preparedness

Medline teams began helping providers increase inventory of personal bathing products, linens and items related to clean-up ahead of the storm last week. Medline also has ensured continued availability of fuel for its MedTrans fleet.

The company also has put in place measures to help ensure Texas team members remained safe. Medline is providing lodging near its distribution center for displaced employees and families, ensuring both company and employees’ personal vehicles are fully fueled, and creating boxed meals for team members.

“We have been through other major weather events in Texas, and our preparedness has been a critical part of healthcare’s recovery in major events like Hurricane Katrina,” adds McWilliams. “While we never can fully predict Mother Nature, our planning has allowed us to manage the current recovery needs of our Texas healthcare customers.”
