Medline Introduces GreenTree™ Recycled Paper Products

New Line Promotes Conservation at Same Cost as Non-Recycled

Tuesday, February 06, 2007

Mundelein, IL -- Medline Industries, Inc., the nation's largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies today launched, GreenTree™, a new line of recycled paper products that promote environmental conservation efforts.

 "We understand how important conservation and recycling is to our environment. With GreenTree our customers can take pride knowing that they are contributing to critical conservation efforts and not spending extra dollars to do so," said Medline President Andy Mills.  "When you consider that one person reportedly uses 700 lbs of paper products each year you realize just how important it is to use recycled materials."

The GreenTree line, made of 100 percent recycled paper includes toilet paper, hand towels and napkins. GreenTree paper is also produced without using highly toxic chlorine compounds.  Environmental studies indicate that producing recycled paper causes up to 74 percent less air pollution, 35 percent less water pollution and creates more jobs while saving old-growth trees, forest eco systems and protecting biodiversity.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency recycling is extremely important because it:

  • expands manufacturing jobs and increases US competitiveness;
  • significantly reduces the need for land filling and incineration;
  • prevents pollution caused by the manufacturing of products from virgin materials;
  • saves energy;
  • decreases emissions of greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change;
  • conserves natural resources such as timber, water and minerals; and
  • helps sustain the environment for future generations.

As part of its conservation efforts, Medline has also made major modifications to the company's lighting systems to reduce electricity consumption; it has invested a significant amount of money in temperature control and weather proofing and it recycles hundreds of tons of paper, plastic and waste oil.  In addition to these modifications, Medline is a major sponsor of "Cool Globes, Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet," a Chicago public art program to promote awareness and solutions to global warming.  Medline is also corporate participant of www.stopglobalwarming.org.
