Mundelein, IL -- Medline Industries Inc., the
nation's largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of medical
and surgical supplies joins DuPont in introducing its Proxima line's new
OrthoMax Orthopedic Drapes made with DuPont™ Suprel™ medical fabric to
withstand rigorous orthopedic surgical procedures. The new Medline drape
has the greatest tear resistance, high barrier and conformity due to the
strength, softness and drapeability of Suprel™ medical fabric that
combines the strength of polyester with the comfort of polyethylene.
"The OrthoMax Drapes are by far stronger than any drape on the market,"
said Medline Proxima Division President Jim Pigott. "In addition to
their incredible strength and drapeability which provide an exceptional
barrier during rigorous orthopedic procedures, OrthoMax Drapes also
address infection control concerns because Suprel™ is made from
continuous filament fibers that are very low linting."
Tear resistance is critical during orthopedic procedures. When tested
using ASTM D5034 methodology for Grab Strength Machine Direction and
Cross Direction and ASTM D5733-99 Trap Tear Cross Direction, OrthoMax
had greater strength in all three tests than competitive drapes.
The new drapes also have oversized anesthesia screens for complete
coverage. The screens range from 112" to 121" wide, allowing a 6'9"
person to be draped from fingertip to fingertip. "At this size, one
drape is ideal for orthopedic procedures. This additional coverage
virtually eliminates the need to pull half-sheets or three-quarter
sheets to create a sterile field," added Pigott.
In addition, new OrthoMax Drapes offer:
- Wider and longer absorbent impervious zones. The
drapes offer AANSI/AAMI PB70:2003 level 4 protection.
- Malleable fluid collection pouches with a
bendable wire strip at the top that provides extra reinforcement for
rigorous procedures
- Velcro-style line holders or place surgical lines
and help keep them clear of the fenestration
DuPont scientists tapped the strength of polyester and
the texture of polyethylene to create Suprel™, a bi-component fabric
that not only meets high standards for protection but also features the
industry's smoothest and silkiest fabric texture, providing incredible
freedom of movement and comfort in the O.R. environment. With 35 patents
granted or pending supporting its introduction, Suprel™ is the only
medical fabric made from polyester and polyethylene and the only one
manufactured using the proprietary DuPont Nonwovens Advanced Composite
Technology (ACT).
